About Me
One day I realized I was writing a book in my head
and decided to put it on paper. When I did, the magic was there. I knew I had arrived as a writer and had found my voice. I had tried to write when I was younger, but I always struggled with putting enough of myself, my experiences, into my writing. So I thought I needed a PhD to write nonfiction. What I really needed is for creative nonfiction to come into its own.
Bio
By working through grief, gaining awareness and developing insight, Brenda Gaines Hunter found the voice and courage to emerge as a writer of memoir and narrative nonfiction. The topics that she reframes and explores are a gift of having grown up in Illinois' foster care and group home system during the 1970s and of having to work through a lifelong struggle with the grief of separation from and rejection by her family of origin. In "This is How it Ends," it is pleasantly obvious that she not only has a dark side that resonates throughout her work, but also a biting sense of humor and clever insight, which provides numerous breaks from the pathos that is inherent in her story.
Over the next few years "This is How it Ends"--a memoir and "Heroes," a book of personal essays, will be released. "This is How it Ends" is undergoing editing right now and "Heroes" is more than a twinkle in God's eye.
Brenda Gaines Hunter holds three master's degrees in education and writing, and professional certifications in Web development and network engineering. You might say, she's a professional student.
She moved from Northern California to Chicago late in 2007. She lives with her cat, Fagan.

Personal Quotes: (1) It's a good thing God has a sense of humor. (2) If you don't mind jail, I guess I shouldn't mind you going. (3) God only speaks for 20 minutes at a time. (4) We're all in this big conundrum. No one knows why they're here. (5) Emotions are a requirement for life. Without them we'd kill each other. With them we only kill those who are not like us.
